No fracking near schools
Many studies have noted that space – a minimum of at least 1 mile – is needed between children and gas and oil development. Studies carried out by the Center for Environmental Health sampled air in Washington County and stated, “We are very concerned about communities living near fracking sites, especially women and children who are particularly vulnerable to health problems from fracking pollution.”
The samples from this study revealed high levels of benzene and formaldehyde in the air, known carcinogens, at levels exceeding health-based standards by as many as several times in magnitude.
Our rural ciommunities have been transformed into industrial areas with fracking, compressor stations and other Marcellus Shale-related activities at our doorstep. We cannot allow this near schools any longer.
