Trump is clueless
Donald Trump has mentioned that the United States should have stayed in Iraq and taken the country’s oil. Such a statement reveals clearly how little he knows about international law, the deployment of military force, or anything about the oil business.
The taking of another nation’s resource after an invasion is described in international law as, “pillage and plunder.” Under international law it is illegal.
Pillaging a resource such as oil is not the same as plundering a nation’s wheat crop or livestock. Extracting all the oil in a field would take many years, not months. Where do the oil field workers come from to do the job? Do we trust Iraqi personnel trained in this work or do we bring in American contract workers at huge salaries to complete the job? What about the shipping required to move large amounts of oil from Iraq? These are huge and expensive problems, and that’s not mentioning the number of casualties our troops would suffer while plundering the oil.
Put aside for a moment Trump’s misogyny, bigotry and racism, though these factors alone should bar him from the presidency. His outlandish desire to take Iraq’s oil reveals that he is lacking in the intellectual capacity to be president of the United States.
