Judicial system has blood on its hands

I read the Sept 1 letter from George C. Miller Jr., who stated the Washington County Court of Common Pleas bears no responsibility for the death of Tierne Ewing. I couldn’t disagree more.

I followed the case since it was first in the news in July. Given the horrific abuse and torture of his wife, plus the testimony from Tierne Ewing that he would kill her, I was appalled when I read that Judge Gary Gilman had granted Kevin Ewing house arrest with an ankle monitor.

What is equally shocking is that Kevin Ewing’s attorney said, “No one could have seen this coming.” What an amazing statement. Everyone but the judge and attorney saw this coming.

The judicial system failed Tierne Ewing. I believe there is blood on the hands of the judicial system. Maybe better laws will be enacted because of this case, but they won’t help Tierne Ewing.

When will the laws ever be on the side of the victim? When will abused women not be looked at as being guilty or somehow causing the abuse?
