Kaepernick should be punished
I’m a Marine on duty in the Philippines. My mom sends me newspaper clippings from home, and I just finished reading John Steigerwald’s Sept. 4 column, “49ers should tell Kaepernick it’s time to stand up or get lost.”
According to Title 36 of the United States Code, Chapter 3, Subsection 301, National Anthem, “All other persons present (not military or veterans, because they will be saluting) should face the flag and stand at attention with their right hand over the heart, and men not in uniform, if applicable, should remove their headdress with their right hand and hold it at the left shoulder, the hand being over the heart; and when the flag is not displayed, all present should face toward the music and act in the same manner they would if the flag were displayed.”
I’m no judge, but I’d say other than someone physically unable to stand, not standing for the national anthem is a direct violation of United States Code and that person ought to be punished.
