Where is our humanity?

I was saddened to read in the Observer-Reporter about all the unclaimed bodies in Washington County. It is probably the same around the country.

I can understand why the bodies can’t be used for research because of contamination. But it is a shame we do not have a system in place to at least cremate unclaimed bodies.

Where has our humanity gone? Don’t we pay enough taxes now to cover the approximate $325 or so to give them a decent resting place? These dead don’t have to have a gold casket. A cardboard one would do.

I’d rather see my taxes go up by another $5 so the humane thing can be done. It would be cheaper than having to store the bodies in the morgue, and a heck of a lot more humane.
