LETTER The elephant in the room
After reading Carl Haberl’s Sunday commentary piece, “Emerging Russia connection endangers presidency, nation,” an old phrase about opinions and everyone having one came to mind.
The entire article was a waste of space simply because Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation has not been completed, and we don’t know whether President Trump and his campaign colluded with Russia last year. Presently, opinions differ depending upon whether you are pro-Trump or anti-Trump.
The question of whether Russia may or may not have tampered with our election with the help of members of the Trump campaign has me only questioning one fact, which nearly everyone appears to be avoiding. Pennsylvania became international news because of our Third World methods of casting our ballots with absolutely no possibility of ever conducting an acceptable recount without a voter-verified paper audit trail, in order to detect possible election fraud or malfunctions, and to provide a means to audit the electronic results.
Why has nothing been done on a statewide or even local level to bring our outdated method of voting out the Stone Age?
Why aren’t we discussing the real elephant in the room?
