Eliminate property taxes for school funding

The June 20 edition of the Observer-Reporter reported that the Trinity School Board adopted a budget of $55.3 million, and set the millage at 13.60 mills. Trinity officials tried to spin the increase by stating that most residents would see an increase of $26 a year. However, now that tax notices have been mailed, it seems that most residents, especially senior citizens, have seen increases in the hundreds of dollars.

Trinity taxpayers are having to endure the hefty tax increases to pay for, among other things, initial installation of turf on practice fields, and tuition for students at Penn Commercial Business/Technical School.

In addition, if Trinity holds true to its historical pattern, it won’t be long until they approve salary increases in the thousands of dollars.

It is time to eliminate the property tax for funding our schools.
