The Miracle on Main

Your coverage of Wednesday’s building collapse was accurate and excellent in all respects except one – the headline “Uptown Terror” that appeared on the front page Thursday.

I was there most of the day and saw not one hint of terror. I observed the excellence in planning, response and execution by over 100 people. I know that it’s popular to bash government nowadays, but yesterday we saw government at it’s finest.

The cool deliberateness of the first responders, the willing cooperation, the expertise in confined space rescue, the resource management and deployment were something to behold. A more fitting headline might have been, “Miracle on Main.”

Now, how about an in-depth story on the considerable planning, resource sharing and communications systems that made this all possible. How about we showcase what happens when government systems work together, as we saw on display Wednesday?
