A Medicaid scenario
If those who want Medicaid to be in the hands of states and not the federal government get their way, what happens in the following scenario, which is a true story: A schizophrenic woman who had a stroke was moved to be closer to her child in another state, so his family living and working in that state could see to it that she was getting proper care.
Would the state to which she was moved be required to enroll her in their Medicaid program? Or would they be allowed to refuse her? Her bills for medicine, multiple hospitalizations and doctors would be way beyond the family’s ability to pay.
Legislators in Washington, D.C., should consider this in their deliberations
