LETTER An equal opportunity destroyer
I read the July 20 letter from David Schriber about opioid addiction with equal amounts of amazement and sadness. I love the premise that, while he works to preserve his little piece of heaven, hordes of drug addicts are robbing us blind. He doesn’t understand the new face of this epidemic is working next to him.
His raising the specter of welfare, or the poor being responsible for this scourge, is both offensive and ignorant. All you need to do is read the obituary page and see what toll this disease is taking on our families. It is a broad and all-encompassing, equal opportunity destroyer. Rich or poor, we bury the people we love.
If Schriber has been lucky enough to not be touched by addiction and its tragedies, he is fortunate or maybe not paying attention. If the time ever comes when someone he loves is addicted, I would hope that he would want first responders to be able to save this sinner who used free will to choose addiction (his words).
