Use turn signals
The Observer-Reporter ran a story Feb. 23, “Drivers refreshed on new, changing traffic safety laws.”
I find it ironic and funny – in a very sarcastic way – that the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation and the Pennsylvania State Police will once again hold a Highway Safety Awareness Week to focus on “changes in the law or a need to remind drivers of existing laws …” One of the most ignored laws in this part of the state, done with apparent impunity, is the requirement to use turn signals. It is very unsafe to make a turn without signaling to other drivers what your intentions are. This is most important when making a left hand turn.
I am a transplant here, but have called Dunlevy my home for 13 years now. I wonder if driver’s education classes teach that this is a law, not just a courtesy. Yes, it is a pet peeve of mine, not only because I have had close calls with drivers who do not signal, but also because I have watched many other near-misses.
That arm on the steering column should be used at all times. It’s the law.
