Big Brother is watching

“Big Brother.”

George Orwell coined the term in his novel “1984,” which was written in the year 1948. Think about that for a second. Orwell envisioned a world where one day the government would have the ability to track and monitor every aspect of our lives. He predicted it would happen in the year 1984. He may have been wrong about the year, but his prediction was otherwise incredibly accurate.

WikiLeaks recently reported and published thousands of secret files about CIA hacking tools the agency employs to break into computers, mobile phones and even smart TVs from companies like Apple, Google, Microsoft and Samsung. The documents describe methods for bypassing the very encryption tools intended to keep the private information of American citizens safe from prying eyes. The revelations threaten to upend confidence in a government program called the Vulnerability Equities Process, under which federal agencies warn technology companies about weaknesses in their software so they can be fixed quickly.

So much for government security protecting us. Instead, what we have is a government capable of watching and tracking every move we make.
