Trump supporters should quit whining
This letter is in response to the March 24 letter from Tom Shumaker who said that an “evil element” is trying to overthrow President Trump. There have been other readers who have expressed similar thoughts.
I have been trying, like a good, defeated little liberal, not to write anything like this, but I cannot just sit here and take any more of this charade. The whining has to stop from some Trump supporters and people who vote for the Republican Party no matter what.
I am so sick of hearing, “Trump won, so liberals should accept it and sing ‘Kumbaya.'” Look, he did win, and maybe with some help, so I accept that Trump is president for at least the next 46 months or more.
But please go back and look at some of the video footage from when President Clinton first took office. Check out the footage of how Republicans acted in Florida during the Bush vs. Gore recount. Look at some of the hate-filled images of tea partiers expressing anger about President Obama. Nobody was treated as bad as Obama, although Hillary Clinton was hit pretty hard. Trump’s crowds still get juiced up with the “lock her up” nonsense. If anyone should go to jail, it should be Trump.
I know there were some bad things said about Republicans like Ronald Reagan, Dick Cheney and both George Bushes. But nobody can tell me it has not gotten worse since Obama’s victory in 2008.
Let’s face the fact that this great country is divided and neither side likes to lose. So although the hate should dissipate, acts of disagreement, peaceful protest and vigilance should never die. Think about the Boston Tea Party, the civil rights movement, the struggles for women’s rights, voting rights, protests against the Vietnam War and the list goes on.
