LETTER: Let the facts speak for themselves

Many people, including myself, have criticized President Trump for many things he’s done in office. Let’s not have any more hostility. Let the facts speak for themselves regarding Trump, 2016 campaign promises and the Republican Congress:

As the Mueller investigation continues, Trump is consumed by trying to convince everyone he is innocent. Would an innocent person be so reluctant? He will not sit for a deposition or questions, under oath. A reasonable person would assume that if you do not want to answer questions, it is either because you are guilty or you are hiding something.

The president said he would build a border wall and make Mexico pay for it. Now he wants the taxpayers to pay for it.

The president said he would cut taxes for the middle class. Perhaps a temporary cut for some, but a significant and permanent cut for the wealthy and corporations.

The president asked Russia to find the Clinton emails. A few days later those emails turned up from Wikileaks, via Russia, to the press.

Trump criticized then-President Obama for playing too much golf. According to Golf News, Trump, or his companies, own and operate 17 golf courses worldwide. It is reported that as of Aug. 6 (18 months into his first term), the president has visited his various clubs 140 times. The White House will not indicate how many times he has actually played. But at this pace, he is on track to visit a course 745 times over an eight-year presidency. Golf Digest reports Obama played 306 rounds in eight years. That averages out to about 38 per year.

Trump said he would release his tax returns when the IRS audit was over. Exactly how long does it take the IRS to do an audit?

The president claims our enemies are our friends and our friends are our enemies. He also claims that the free press is the enemy of the people. The Founding Fathers, many of whom today would be embroiled in scandal, believed it was important enough to put it in the First Amendment.

The president supports a strong Second Amendment. But, he also, by his words and tweets, supports racism, white supremacy and adultery.

Today we have a Congress that has forgotten that the Constitution provides for “checks and balances.” Congress is supposed to check, which includes investigate, the executive branch, when necessary, and this includes the president.

The president claims he needs more Republicans in Congress.

This November, think before you vote. Vote for whom you think will be the best person to represent YOU in Congress. Do not vote for someone because of party loyalty. Make up your own mind, without the help of CNN or FOX, and be a good citizen and do your homework and your civic duty.
