With the arrival of the new year, it is time to reflect on how 2017 affected our lives.

When it came to President Trump, this year brought a lot of emotion and angst, but it also forced us to take a hard look at who we are. It gave us a reason to envision what we have become as a country, and to realize our own personal shortcomings. We witnessed a huge divide in the country.

Looking back, I understand that to move forward we all need to own up to who we are, and let the baggage of 2017 ease away. Essentially, we must discover how we fix our deficiencies and focus on fighting for what we truly care about.

The lesson from 2017 is to stay true and remember our goodness, and not be swayed into reactions that do not match what is inside our hearts.
