LETTER Take an interest in local government
It is such a relief to read the Observer-Reporter and find one local municipality treating taxpayers and voters with respect.
I am referring to the advertisement South Strabane Township placed seeking letters of interest from community members to serve on special boards and commissions. Such positions are for various administrative or non-unionized maintenance employment, or seats on special boards, such as zoning and planning.
Whether it is a borough, township or county, many people serve on some of these boards for years. While that is mostly because of their performance, it is not totally fair that other taxpayers have no way to apply for openings when they are not properly advertised.
We need younger taxpayers to become interested in their local governments.
