LETTER Get rid of the deadbeat dam

With all the rain and melting snow recently, there have been many roads closed in the Marianna area. Several wrapped round bales of hay have been washed from land above the dam on Ten Mile Creek, and have been seen floating down the creek, as well as playground toys, benches and chairs taken in the fast current.

I want to know why state Rep. Bud Cook has done absolutely nothing in the way of speaking out in support of dam removal? He has only spoken about keeping it. For what? And for whom?

Surely Cook knows the dam plays a huge role in why roads are not passable, and creekside bank sediment is washed into the creek year after year, causing damage even to watersheds. It’s past the time to let local officials do their jobs in protecting the health, safety, and welfare of the people, and get the deadbeat dam out.

This could have all been done far sooner. Maybe Cook should visit the flooded basements all along the channel and come clean up the muck in people’s yards since he is all for keeping the dam.
