LETTER: Drain or replenish ‘swamp’?
The president has issued executive orders that include directives to fire federal civil service employees based on poor performance, this in an effort to address waste, fraud, and abuse. Will this new edict also apply to high-level individuals who serve in the administration?
If so, I would expect the following officials to be on the chopping block: the ethically obtuse Environmental Protection Agency Secretary Scott Pruitt; Education Secretary Betsy DeVos, who hates and knows nothing about the public school system; lightweight Energy Secretary Rick Perry;, Consumer Financial Protection Bureau Head Mick Mulvaney, who has placed a huge thumb on the scales for big business to trounce the little guy; the unqualified, in over-his-head leader of the Department of Housing and Urban Development Ben Carson, and Senior Adviser Jared Kushner and Special Adviser Ivanka Trump, whose sole “qualifications” are to be the son-in-law and daughter of the president.
Will you be true to your purported principles, Mr. President? Will you ax those who work in contravention to the stated missions of their departments? Will you drain “the swamp” or continue to replenish it?
