LETTER Be kind, and stand up to bullies
The recent celebrity suicides should give us all pause, reminding us that what we see with our eyes is an illusion. We need to awaken our senses to see with our hearts.
We see fame, power and wealth, believing it equates to happiness and fulfillment. If so, why are so many hopeless and anguished?
The suicide rate is rising, and we need to ask ourselves why. Is it the constant need for social media gratification? The cyberbullying that has become acceptable even at our presidential level? Is it the prejudice and malice that is infectiously growing across our nation, feeding the hate that leaves us anxious and agonized?
Be kind. Stand up to bullies. Don’t condone mean tweets or social media rants from anyone. We need to collectively change the mental outlook of our social climate. We, each of us, needs to change our own moral vision to see past the illusion and be open to love and respect each other.
