OP-ED: The truth and Trump on trial
I was listening to NPR a week ago, and every 20 minutes they repeated the story on Donald Trump’s campaign manager and attorney being busted for campaign finance violations and attempting to evade paying taxes. Both men were busted legitimately, and on legitimate things, but then NPR carried it a step further. They picked “expert commentators” who did everything they could to emphasize that Trump not only tried to cover up an affair, but colluded with the Russians, citing a Russian “guest” who was present when Trump asked staffers to “… find some dirt on Hillary.”
Holy cow. A secret sexual affair? A foreign guest? And a campaign manager who worked on a foreign campaign? Over all the excited NPR commentary on Robert Mueller’s investigation, I thought I could hear Anderson Cooper in the background rubbing one out. NPR was suggesting that Trump is done for because he tried to cover up an affair. Have they never heard of a guy named William Jefferson Clinton? The Democrats and leading liberals forgave old Bill like it was nothing. A little lie over oral sex. One of many I’m sure, but they were so understanding.
NPR’s experts were also suggesting that Trump had actively colluded with Russian President Vladimir Putin through third-party channels who were “guests” on his campaign. If this is such a ghastly political thing, why did the Democrats send their top campaign managers to France immediately after losing the election here to ensure that a nice guy like Macron was elected over a conservative female candidate named LePen? Really. And where was Madeline Albright to suggest that women who don’t vote for female candidates have a special place in hell reserved for them?
NPR’s commentators were also of the opinion that Trump is a right-wing racist out to oppress minorities by building a border wall to keep poor people out. Strangely, the liberal bankers and hedge fund managers who spent $1 BILLION on Hillary’s campaign are also supportive of the state of Israel, which built a wall to keep out undesirable unemployed minorities. Israeli soldiers shoot these minorities when they try to cross this wall illegally, but the hedge-fund managers and bankers tell us it’s not politically correct for Americans. Only racist ethnic bigots would do that!
Interestingly, these same wealthy elites paint Trump as an authoritarian political thug, but have no problem with political and business partners in Communist China and Vietnam, nor emotional problems milking sweat labor in Burma and Bangladesh. Based on who their friends are, and who they invest with, they love right-wing authoritarian governments.
Just ask Google about democracy and China. The folks in Silicon Valley may proclaim a love of liberal civil liberties, and the need for “sanctuary cities,” but when it comes to making lots of money, they bend a little.
If the Wall Street elite hate Putin, it’s because he put that country’s most corrupt oligarchs and hypocritical self-serving screws where they belong: behind bars. If only Mueller’s investigation included parties on both sides of the aisle, maybe we could finally start doing the same thing here.
