To answer Pam Morosky’s question posed March 24, “What did Barack Obama ever do for our country?” I will be only too glad to reply with the results of ardent “fact-checking.”

Here are just a few of our past president’s accomplishments:

• Signed the Affordable Care Act after five presidents failed. Any reforms he wanted to make in cost, etc., however, were halted by a Republican majority;
• Signed the Dodd-Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act to re-regulate the financial sector after its practices caused the Great Recession;
• Repealed “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell,” ending restrictions of gays in the military;
• Toppled Moammar Gaddafi, causing no American loss of life;
• Increased support for veterans, signing a new GI bill offering $78 million in tuition assistance and provided multiple tax credits to encourage businesses to hire veterans;
• Eliminated Osama Bin Laden;
• Expanded Wilderness and Watershed Protections;
• Enabled the American flag to fly in Cuba for the first time in 54 years.

There was much more on the list, but I believe these should be enough to quiet her concerns.

As far as being “overrun” by illegal immigrants, we fail to remember that at one time we were all immigrants coming to a land that was once dominated by indigenous people who were conquered so that we could “illegally” take control.

I don’t know about you, but I am happy to receive “Social” Security and love that there are “social” programs to help those less fortunate. If that makes me a socialist, then most of us are.

Now, let’s review what Trump had done for this country:

• He has divided this nation so that the parties actually hate each other;
• He reignited a passion for white supremacy and has allowed children to be separated from their families;
• He has overturned every regulation to help the environment regardless of the effects;
• He has failed to stop Isis although he claims victory, failed to stop North Korea’s nuclear program and failed to bring back the fossil fuel industries (no complaint about that) as he promised to do;
• He has a revolving cabinet and host of criminals around him yet has somehow escaped the “mortal wound.”

Yes, let’s wake up before it’s too late, before Trump destroys what’s left of this beautiful country and creates more hatred.

Yes, God help us if he wins another four years in office.
