LETTER: A rally or meeting?

A rally or meeting?
Was that a chamber of commerce meeting March 28 or a rally for the incumbents?
While reading about it in the Observer-Reporter,{/em} I actually spit out my coffee, laughing at this statement referencing the county commissioners: “Each bemoaned the county reassessment, the normally non-strident (Diana Irey) Vaughan lashing out, ‘No good came from the reassessment. We spent $9 million on that, money that could have been used elsewhere.’
“(Larry) Maggi added, ‘It solved nothing.'”
Considering the commissioners, according to court documents on file at the prothonotary’s office, voluntarily agreed to do the county-wide property reassessment with the Washington and the McGuffey school districts back in 2008, not once, but twice, the second time by signing onto it through a sworn affidavit, I found Vaughan and Maggi’s remarks to be hilarious.
I believe someone needs to explain to Commissioners Maggi, Vaughan and Harlan Shober that they can convene a meeting anytime they desire to vote to lower the 100% of your assessed property value being used for taxing purposes. At the same time they can make a motion and vote to lower all the Clean and Green rates handed down to them from the state.
It appears as though they either don’t know this, they don’t care to fix it, or they think maybe they are smarter then the taxpayers?
The only thing I have figured out for certain is that the commissioners are good at raising things, like our property taxes and their salaries.
