LETTER: Voters deserve to know facts about candidates

The residents of East Washington, North and South Strabane, Strabane, Manifold, Pancake, Laboratory and part of Eighty Four will have an important decision to make this election. Specifically, voters who live in these areas will be selecting a new district judge to fill the vacancy created with Judge Jay Weller’s retirement.

A district judge needs to know the law in order to keep our community safe and protect victims of crime. Education is a key factor to a candidate’s ability to serve in this role. Unfortunately, the recent article announcing Dawn Petrosky’s candidacy for the office omitted her education. She holds a law degree from the University of Pittsburgh School of Law and attended Cornell University School of Law’s comparative law summer program in Paris, France. She earned a bachelor of arts degree from Dickinson College, and graduated from Immaculate Conception High School.

Throughout the election season, I’m sure each candidate will do their best to inform voters about their qualifications. Many may also rely on the Observer-Reporter to be a reliable source. The voters deserve to have the facts about each candidate before they go to the polling place.
