LETTER: No hunting on Sundays rule should stand
No hunting on Sundays rule should stand
If you were to take a poll among property owners of substantial amounts of land where people hunt, I’ll bet a high percentage of them would agree that the “no hunting on Sunday” rule should stand.
Even though we are not hunters ourselves, we do allow family and friends to hunt on our property. Unfortunately, however, there is a surprising number of hunters who sneak onto our property from unseen access areas and hunt without permission. They think that they are entitled. As a friend once said, “Everything is free in the country.” It is both infuriating and downright dangerous when unaccountable hunters crowd onto the property. It is nearly impossible to control the situation … you would have to hire an around-the-clock warden to stop this. Many other landowners we know have the same problem.
Now consider the various hunting seasons for small and large game as well as the different types of weapons. Fall. Winter. Spring. It seems as though somebody is always trying to kill something. Sunday is the ONE day that the landowner can fix fence, account for livestock, ride a horse or even just take a walk without worrying about getting shot, and you want to take that day away, too?
