LETTER: Russiagate hoax backfired
Congratulations, Democrats! For two years, you’ve been yelling at us about Russiagate. Mueller’s investigation shows it to be a hoax built on your lies. Neither President Trump nor anyone in his administration colluded with Russia to fix the 2016 election.
Your soft coup against Trump failed. You and your lickspittle journalists in the corporate media have completely discredited your party and the complicit media, while seriously damaging any vestige of trust we had in the country’s democratic process. As the excellent political blogger Caitlin Johnstone says, “Why should we believe anything you have to say ever again?”
Trump was proven right about the Russiagate hoax. He’ll be loudly reminding us of that until the 2020 election. You probably helped re-elect him. Instead of spending the last two years showing us how much better your domestic and foreign policies could be compared to Trump’s regressive, Neanderthal-like policies, you Democrats went with the hoax.
The reason the corporate Democrats didn’t highlight their policies is because they aren’t really much different than the corporate GOP’s. Both parties represent big money, corporate America and the ultra-wealthy, not the vast majority of people in this country. They differ only in minor ways. That’s why people voted for Trump, in the vain hope that he would represent the interests of the alienated masses. But Trump, the con man, couldn’t care less about the masses. So, why didn’t you spend the last two years showing us what a con man he is instead of this ridiculous hoax?
I hope Trump insists that the classified portions of Mueller’s report be declassified so we can learn exactly who was behind this hoax and indict those responsible. An editorial on the political website wsws.org says, “The Democratic Party is the rotting corpse of American liberalism,” to which I would add “and may it fade away into obscurity.”
The GOP has always represented the interests of big money, corporations and the ultra-wealthy. The dirty, barely hidden, secret of the Democrats is that they also largely represent these same clients, thanks mostly to the Clintons and their minions. This has now been exposed to people in this country who yearn for a truly representative democracy.
Both the GOP and the Democrats have suffocated the democratic aspirations of Americans. It’s time to renew our democracy with alternative political institutions.
