LETTER: Buck stops with the voters

In the May 19 Observer-Reporter, John Bristor states in a letter to the editor, “Central Greene is being drained, thanks to our elected officials, who are choking, crippling and crucifying our public school system.”
While there is complete agreement on this matter, it begs the question: How do these politicians get elected (or repeatedly re-elected) in the first place?
The answer is quite simple: the uneducated voters who vote the party line. The voters who have a Pavlovian response to the constant back-slapping, glad-handing, baby-kissing, hand-out promises and seemingly endless adoration for these slick operators.
Until the electorate gets smart and sees voting in these political popularity contests as a gross challenge to their pocketbooks, not to mention their ultimate freedom, we all will be churned in the arena called wasteful, corrupt government.
