LETTER: Stop the killing

Unlike other states, including major hunting states like Colorado, Arizona and New Mexico, Pennsylvania still condones the killing of wildlife for fun and cash. Targeted animals include raccoons, ground hogs, coyotes and even crows.
The Pennsylvania Game Commission allows the killing to continue while at the same time acknowledging the practice’s failure as a method of predator control.
Wildlife killing violates the basic principles of legitimate sportsmanship: it fails to both respect the animals and allow them a fair chance.
Wildlife kills also reflect poorly both on the Pennsylvania Game Commission and hunting itself. At least one wildlife kill that targets coyotes started in the area Feb. 5. Residents who feel the way I do should contact the Game Commission at pgccomments@pa.gov.
