I’ve read Gary Stout’s op-ed columns in the Observer-Reporter for a couple of years and finally decided I had to respond. The ignorance he displays in both his “Political sea change in Washington County” (July 9) and “Nostalgia for Republican leadership misplaced” (July 16) is astounding.

First, the sea change he refers to has occurred because Democratic policies fail. Chicago, Philadelphia, and Los Angeles clearly demonstrate that Democrats have no idea how to successfully run a city. Joe Biden has demonstrated how not to run a country. He is correct that people have left Allegheny County because of failed policies like exorbitant tax rates, which give citizens little benefit. One can see the same thing happening in the failing state of California. People are leaving in droves for Texas and Florida, and it is not just Republicans.

I’m not surprised, but like Democrat division politics, he states that white nativism took the place of the labor unions. That is a ludicrous statement! Labor unions have been diminishing for 50 years in our country, and that’s because we don’t need them any longer. We also really don’t need all the other failed Democratic policies either. One need only look at the current administration and congressional leadership to see failure demonstrated. There are no “glory days” coming for Democrats. They failed in a botched withdrawal from Afghanistan, failed to get therapeutics in place for COVID-19 (instead putting all efforts on vaccines), failed the public by indiscriminately mandating business closing and wearing masks, continue to fail to manage the southern border, failed to realize that the economy was recovering but instead spent billions, sending us spiraling into inflation, and continue to make mistake after mistake in managing the current economic situation.

Joe Biden is a weak leader, and every poll demonstrates he’s failing in all aspects. People are sick of the far left, woke policies and the disintegration of our moral values. The Democrats installed a Supreme Court justice who couldn’t even define what a female is. Do you think that is what parents and grandparents want for their children? A society that can’t define male and female? Did anyone ever think in your lifetime that you’d see a man compete in women’s sports and be allowed to win? Leftist policies are and will be the demise of the Democratic Party in November and 2024.

I welcome the opportunity for Republicans to take the lead in Washington County and nationally. I pray it is not a sea change, but a tsunami.
