Protect Social Security and seniors
It is shocking to hear our congressional representatives talk about dismantling Social Security.
This effective and efficient agency provides the means for our seniors to live out the last chapter of their lives with comfort and dignity. The money seniors receive is the same money they put in while working for 30 or 40 years or more. Furthermore, those monthly checks go right back into the economy; plenty of businesses depend on senior spending. Cutting back Social Security benefits would not only impoverish vulnerable seniors, but would also crush small businesses.
Anyone who thinks the retirement age should be pushed to 70 has obviously worked at a desk their entire lives.
U.S. Rep. Kevin Hern of Oklahoma has said, “Everybody has to look at everything.” If that’s the case, are we allowed to look at the Department of Defense? Stories of fraud and waste in that department are legendary. President Dwight Eisenhower, the former general, warned of the dangers of the “military-industrial complex”. It’s time we heeded his warning, rather than considering destroying the lives of our senior citizens.
