It’s about time
Thank you to Karen Mansfield of the Observer-Reporter{/em}, CNX, the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection (DEP), and Gov. Josh Shapiro, for directing our energy toward more transparency between the gas and oil companies and the public. It’s about time.
They say there are two things you don’t want to see being made, laws and sausages. Well, even though this transparency initiative is not a law, please keep grinding out more evidence to help keep our children and future generations safer and healthier.
Please remember that Canonsburg was once deemed “the most radioactive town in America.” That title was achieved behind closed doors and under the most non-transparent circumstances of the Manhattan Project, which developed the first atomic bombs.
We’re not at the point of total self-destruction yet, and there are no heroes in this story, because we all appreciate our gas-powered lives and economy, myself included. I know things are not going to change anytime soon, but we must keep on grinding out that evidence and the best safety practices for a better life.
Please all towns in America, remember Bob Dylan’s advice in a song, “Don’t follow leaders, watch the parking meters.”
Dennis Smiddle
