Remembering a tragic loss

Eleven years have passed since the horrific killing of one of Washington & Jefferson College’s brightest stars on the gridiron.

When the news broke that Tim McNerney was brutally killed on the street by thugs, it hit like a thunderbolt to all who knew him as a brilliant student-athlete, and those who admired his skills on the football field.

As a dedicated W&J football fan, I watched McNerney develop into a powerful, team-oriented, offensive player who poured every ounce of spirit and energy into his team’s endeavor of honoring and glorifying W&J’s outstanding football program. That being said, the really tragic loss still resides with his family, who surely must believe that McNerney would have grown to be a loving and productive person.

Although some current W&J fans that I have conversed with have no knowledge of this loss, it is altogether fitting and proper that a heartfelt recollection of McNerney’s accomplishments be duly noted in a public forum so that his memory will be faithfully kept in the annals of Washington & Jefferson College.
