Thankful Jordan will not be speaker

Finally, and thankfully, Jim Jordan’s ill-advised and ill-fated bid to become Speaker of the U. S. House of Representatives has crumbled, but only after he was rejected on three ballots, each succeeding one showing his support shrinking.

Jordan has been one of the foremost election-deniers/liars, having made strong efforts to overturn the result of the 2020 contest which legitimately made Joe Biden president. Even after Donald Trump’s violent sycophants attacked the Capitol and the outmanned law enforcement officers within it, Jordan voted against certifying the election for the winner. To this day, he will not state unequivocally that Biden is the bona fide president.

Jordan has been accused by multiple students from Ohio State University, at which he was a wrestling coach, that he ignored a sexual abuse scandal which was under his nose and of which he was made aware.

During the third futile attempt to secure the votes to become speaker, Kevin McCarthy – no great man of honor either – characterized Jordan as “a skilled legislator,” someone who “reaches for compromise,” one who is honest and reliable. His depiction of Jordan is fiction of which he should be ashamed.

I am thankful that the Republican caucus finally put an end to the prospect of a speakership which would have been in the hands of a reckless man who is out to destroy, not to govern, but I will not forget that approximately 90% of the party’s members in the House had supported granting such an important post to a man of disrepute and dishonor.
