The worst of times
The first line of “A Tale of Two Cities” is, “It was the best of times, it was the worst of times.” In our country today, anyone who is not afraid of the truth knows we are in the worst of times. Let me cite a few examples.
Because of our debt, our credit rating has dropped. The 30-year mortgage rate has climbed to its highest level in 20 years. Forty percent of Americans do not have $400 for an emergency. Credit card balances are through the roof. Sixty-one percent of people are living paycheck to paycheck, and higher food and gas prices are making things worse.
There is a lack of faith and religion. People have fewer face-to-face conversations because phones get in the way. Nobody wants to give them up, not when eating, walking and worse, when driving. Narcissism reigns.
People are stealing thousands of dollars in retail inventory. Criminals are not being prosecuted, and because of this rampant crime wave stores are closing. This deprives honest people of pharmacies and other necessary stores.
Police are leaving the ranks as they are not respected and they are targets of attacks. Military recruitment is down, as apparently people do not want to honor and defend our country. It could be because institutions of learning are teaching that America is bad. City streets are filled with tents, needles and excrement. Students aren’t proficient in math or reading, but are at the top of the class in bullying and TikTok.
I hope and pray that there are leaders who will take control, as this ship is adrift, in deep water, and with no captain at the helm. We are heading to an iceberg!
