Salena Zito stated in a recent column that President Biden has announced a pause in all exports of natural gas. This statement is totally false and misleading.

What was announced at the end of January is a temporary pause in the issuing of more permits for export facilities for liquified natural gas (LNG). The pause in new permits does not stop the construction of LNG facilities that are either under construction or permitted.

It has been reported the LNG facilities currently either permitted or under construction have roughly double the country’s capacity to export LNG. The low prices for natural gas presently enjoyed by both residential and industrial customers will most certainly rise as more liquified natural gas is exported to the world market.

While raising the specter of higher food prices, Zito totally ignores the inflationary effect that higher gas prices would cause as a higher percentage of our domestic natural gas supply is exported.
