When school funding issues are raised, the topic of return on investment is never examined.
Any increase in funding should be limited to building improvements with zero spent on sports or teacher salaries. Teacher salaries must be tied to student outcomes. I am not blaming teachers, but school policies including social promotion. Students must be held accountable for their grades and parents must accept those grades.
If students don’t put in the effort they must be held back. Parents must prepare their children to start school. That is their job.
All the talk about computers is wasted. Many schools now give out laptops to every student but see no improvement in test scores. Math, reading and biology can be taught and learned without the aid of a computer or a calculator.
Parents must also be teachers at home, both in school subjects and social norms, as most of the actual learning is, or should be, done at home.
