In her Monday letter, “A better, less divided Country,” Virginia A. Trois calls for a country with less division, asking that we “understand and respect the opinions of others without so many vitriolic and caustic remarks”. This is curious, given that the writer has on multiple occasions defended and expressed her support for Donald Trump on this page.

Donald Trump has done more to divide our country than any president. He respects no one’s opinion if it is not in sync with his. He is the king of vitriolic and caustic remarks and personal attacks which even many of his supporters find distasteful. He has used his sway over his followers to purge from government, from the Republican Party and the Republican National Committee anyone who does not kowtow to him. He has made comments about foes and those who have pursued criminal proceedings against him that have prompted intimidation and death threats against them and their families and never has he told his supporters that they should not engage in such behavior. Instead, he relishes what they are doing.

If Trois truly wishes for a more tolerant, unified country to emerge, she has been backing the wrong man.
