In his letter of Feb. 26, “Reschenthaler Should Support Ukraine”, Donald Fitch asks our U.S. representative to do the right thing, to recognize the need to support our democratic ally, which has been brutalized by killer Vladimir Putin and Russia for two long years as he seeks to take over the country.

I can assure Fitch that his plea will fall on deaf ears. Congressman Guy Reschenthaler is an appendage of Donald Trump, a stooge of a former president who is corrupt, a sex offender, a serial liar, a bigot, and one who seeks to target our democratic system of governance for extinction in favor of an autocracy.

Reschenathler voted against certifying the 2020 election for the legitimate winner, Joe Biden, sticking to his guns even after Trump’s criminals assaulted the Capitol and the brave and valorous members of law enforcement who protected it despite being pummeled by the mob.

Anyone who views Reschenthaler’s Facebook and Twitter pages know that he ardently devotes himself to challenging anything President Biden does and insulting him, but there is never any digression to address the countless sins of his idol, Trump.

I am sure Reschenthaler would classify himself as a fiscal conservative, yet he is willing to throw in the trash the tens of billions of dollars that we have already provided to Ukraine to fend off Putin and to keep his conquests from going any further. If we fail to help Ukraine now, the country will lose the war and become a province of Russia.

As others have said, if you think the cost of fostering democracy is high, you are ignoring the cost of the alternative.

I wonder if military veteran Reschenthaler recognized at the time who and what he was fighting for.
