Why so many car washes?

The commercial area around Trinity Point and Strabane Square in South Strabane is really thriving these days. Just sit at a stop light on Murtland Avenue and watch the cars coming and going. You can have most of your shopping needs met there and don’t have to go elsewhere.
The only thing that is missing is a high-end women’s clothing store now that Dress Barn has closed, but you can go down Route 19 a couple miles and go to Tanger Outlets, provided you don’t mind tromping around the concrete corridors. We seem to have a large number of eateries which seems sufficient for whatever your dining needs are.
What I don’t understand, though, is what’s up with all the car washes?
There is a new one under construction right now, which will bring the total to five within a half-mile or less of each other. If you drive about another mile or so on Route 19 going north, that makes six!
Do we need that many? What am I missing here? Either we must be a really dirty town or car washing must be a very lucrative business. Should I be buying stock in car washes? Instead of its historical designation, Washington will be known as “Washinton Pa, City of Car Washes.”
Should we anticipate a price war in our future? That would be beneficial. I wouldn’t mind getting a premium wash and wax for $5, would you? More than likely, though I would bet that some will just be driven out of business by their competitors for one reason or another.
There seems to be a betting app for just about everything these days. I wonder if there is one for betting on car washes?
