Should we ignore the law?

I have a question for Gary Stout based on his April 28 column, “Washington County’s Republican commissioners adopt voter suppression”: Should we ignore the law every time we don’t like it?

That seems to be the modus operandi of the Democratic Party these days when it doesn’t want to enforce immigration or public assembly laws, when its district attorneys put criminals back on the streets.

Stout quotes the Federal 3rd Circuit Court of Appeals as admitting, “The date requirement is irrelevant to whether a vote is received timely.” However, he fails to recognize that the court upheld the law 2-1 because it is the law. Laws are to be changed by legislatures, not on the whims of courts or commissioners.

Please stop falsely accusing Republican commissioners of wanting to suppress votes.
