In her May 16 op-ed, state Sen. Camera Bartolotta calls the technology known as carbon capture a “commonsense solution, ” but it’s more like a dangerous distraction.
For many years, corporate leaders have been touting the supposed ability to remove carbon pollution before it enters the atmosphere. But there is very little to show for the billions of public dollars that have been wasted on chasing this illusion.
Pennsylvania Senate Bill 831 would continue to prop up the myth that pollution can be simply isolated and buried forever. The truth is that carbon capture is expensive, unproven and potentially dangerous – and it lets polluters off the hook for the damage they want to keep on doing to our communities and the climate.
