Heavy rain closes streets, floods basements

Heavy rain that moved through northern Washington County about 8:30 a.m. has caused street and basement flooding in the Canonsburg, Cecil Township and Peters Township areas. Numerous roads are closed, and firefighters and emergency personnel are working to clear storm drains and pump basements. The Lawrence area of Cecil Township appearsto be hard-hit.

Interstate 79 North is backed up to the Southpointe exit due to flooding on Pittsburgh area streets. Route 51 and Banksville Road are under water.

A flash flood warning remains in effect until 11:15 a.m. for northern Washington County, and flash flood watch is in effect for all of Southwestern Pennsylvania through 6 a.m. Thursday.
