It’s National S’mores Day!
Woo-hoo! Mondays aren’t normally much cause for celebration, but this one is because it’s National S’mores Day!
The popular campfire treat is celebrated every Aug. 10. For the uninitiated, s’mores consist of a roasted marshmallow and a layer of chocolate bar sandwiched between two pieces of graham cracker.
The origin of the delicious, gooey treat dates to the early 1920s. Credit for the first recorded version of the recipe goes to the Girl Scout publication, “Tramping and Trailing with the Girl Scouts,” even though the organization was not the very first to create the concoction.
Today’s recipe has many variations, including additions of peanut butter and peanut butter cup candy bars and substitutions of marshmallow cream for the roasted marshmallow.
In honor of this very tasty day, the Observer-Reporter’s digital intern Mallory Rogers went into the test kitchen to create a video featuring several s’mores recipes, including S’mores Dip, S’mores Cups and Classic S’mores.
Try one, and you’ll say, “Give me s’more!”
