Cake fit for a queen
Today is Julia Child’s birthday!
In honor of the American chef, author and TV personality, we went into the O-R test kitchen to replicate one of her signature recipes, Queen of Sheba cake.
Featured in her cookbook, “Mastering the Art of French Cooking,” and in the 100th episode of her TV series, “The French Chef,” the recipe is a decadent chocolate and almond cake that is meant to be slightly underbaked, to keep the center creamy. The trick is to fold the whipped egg whites into the batter without deflating them.
In the words of Julia, it is “an extremely good chocolate cake!”
Julia Child died Aug. 13, 2004, at the age of 91.
