Greater Pittsburgh Vascular & Surgery located in Washington, Pa is a one-stop facility to care for all of your heart and vascular health needs. We specialize in Cardiac, peripheral vascular disease, and disorders of the venous system.

More than half of the patients with blockages in their heart also have peripheral vascular disease. Most people realize that shortness of breath or chest pain are symptoms of cardiac disease but, most people do not understand the risk factors or signs and symptoms of peripheral vascular disease or venous insufficiency.

Some signs/symptoms of Peripheral Vascular disease include, pain while walking that gets better with rest, leg numbness or weakness, sores on your legs, toes or feet that will not heal, shiny skin on your legs, coldness in your lower leg or foot, or color changes in your legs. Some signs/symptoms of venous insufficiency include pain while standing for long periods of time, swelling of the ankles or legs, frequent leg cramps, aching or throbbing legs, or weakness.

Dr. Michael Brown is an interventional cardiologist. Dr. Brown attended Medical School at the University of Louisville. He completed a combined Internal Medicine and Pediatrics residency at the Medical College of Ohio, in Toledo Ohio. He practiced in the US Army at Womack Army Medical Center, Ft. Bragg N.C. His time in the Military included a deployment as Battalion Surgeon for the 82nd Airborne Division in Support of Operation Enduring Freedom. He has been practicing in western Pennsylvania since 2007. In 2019 he joined the Jefferson Cardiology practice. These two integrated entities can care for all these needs in one convenient location without traveling to multiple doctors for diagnosis and testing.

Dr. Brown specializes in the following procedures:

• Carotid Stenting

• Peripheral Vascular Interventions

• Renal Artery Stenting

• Venous Ablation Therapy

• Sclerotherapy of Varicose Veins

• Iliac Vein Stenting

• Coronary Stenting

• Pacemakers

Dr. Brown, as well as the other staff members at Greater Pittsburgh Vascular, will identify a patient’s risk factors, listen to their concerns, identify their symptoms and manage them through patient education, behavior modifications, medication, physical therapy and other interventions.

Unfortunately, some patients have delayed treatment during the pandemic. Delaying treatment may lead to more serious health problems such as heart attack, stroke, blood clots, loss of limb or incapacitating pain.

“Please do not put off treatment,” Brown said. Patients suffer unnecessarily sometimes with shortness of breath, chest pain, non-healing wounds on their legs, or pain that keeps them from enjoying life.
