Washington & Jefferson College sophomore center Valerie Dunlap was selected as the Presidents’ Athletic Conference Women’s Basketball Player of the Week Monday.

Dunlap helped W&J (2-0, 5-1) to a pair of conference victories last week by averaging 15.0 points and 12.5 rebounds per contest.

W&J senior John Szott and sophomore Jessica Sweitzer swept the Presidents’ Athletic Conference Swimmer/Diver of the Week awards Monday.

Sweitzer helped W&J to its second straight Grove City Winter Invitational women’s team championship by winning four events (three individual, one relay), while Szott earned both diving titles to lead the W&J men.

Sweitzer was also the runner-up three times.

Waynesburg junior Sam Lombardo took third place at 157 pounds at this past weekend’s Ohio Northern Invitational to earn PAC Wrestler of the Week honors for a second consecutive week.

The defending 165-pound PAC champion improved to 9-1 on the year for Waynesburg, which will host NCAA Division II foe West Liberty on Friday at 7 p.m.

Senior center Elijah Obade (Charleroi) has helped Millersville to its first 2-0 start in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference play since the 2007-08 season by averaging 19 points, 15 rebounds and three blocks per game – enough to help him earn PSAC East Athlete of the Week honors.

Junior defensive tackle Aaron Donald was named the Big East Defensive Player of the Week for his performance in the Pitt football team’s 27-3 victory over South Florida this past weekend. Donald led Pitt’s defensive charge with a career-high four tackles for loss. He had five total tackles and a nine-yard quarterback sack against the Bulls.

On the basketball court, freshman guard James Robinson was named the Big East Conference Basketball Rookie of the Week on Monday by the league office. Robinson became the first Pitt freshman to earn Big East Rookie of the Week honors since DeJuan Blair did it on Jan. 14, 2008. In two wins, Robinson averaged 11 points, seven assists and two rebounds per game. He also shot 60 percent from the floor and hit three 3-pointers.

Texas A&M quarterback Johnny Manziel, Notre Dame linebacker Manti Te’o and Kansas State quarterback Collin Klein are the finalists for the Heisman Trophy.

Manziel is the favorite to win college football’s most famous player award when it is presented Saturday night in New York. He would be the first freshman to win the Heisman and the first Texas A&M player since halfback John David Crow won the school’s only Heisman in 1957.

Te’o is trying to become the first defense-only player to win a Heisman and the eighth player from Notre Dame. The Fighting Irish have had seven Heisman winners, tied for the most, but none since Tim Brown in 1987.

Klein would be the first player from Kansas State to win the Heisman.

The finalists were announced Monday.

LeBron James of the Miami Heat is Sports Illustrated’s Sportsman of the Year. James became an NBA champion for the first time in 2012, a year in which he also won his second Olympic gold medal and his third NBA MVP trophy.

He’s the first NBA player to win the award since Heat teammate Dwyane Wade in 2006.
