Darrell Briggs scored 17 points as McGuffey built a 26-18 halftime lead Saturday night and the Highlanders held off Western Beaver, 56-48, in the championship game of the Highlanders’ tournament.

Taylor Pasquariello and Caleb Reihner added 11 and 10 points, respectively, for McGuffey (2-0).

Brandon Sheller led Western Beaver (1-1) with 13 points.

Carmichaels 56, Jefferson-Morgan 26: Josh Mundell scored 21 points as Carmichaels jumped out to a 17-0 lead after one quarter en route to capturing the championship of the Jefferson-Morgan tip-off tournament with a 56-28 win over the host Rockets.

Brandon Lawless added nine points for the Mikes (2-0).

Altoona 48, Peters Township 42: Brandon Lytle scored all 12 of his points off of three-pointers as Altoona nipped Peters Township, 48-42, at the Indians’ tip-off tournament.

Altoona (2-0) took charge of the game with a 20-10 run in the second quarter.

Gabe Pritz had 17 points, while J.C. Brush added 12, for the Indians (1-1).

Franklin Regional 69, Monessen 54: George Brown had 17 points as Franklin Regional held off Monessen, 69-54, in the consolation game of the Upper St. Clair tournament.

Jake Roberage added 16 points for Franklin Regional (1-1).

Clintell Gillaspie had 15 points, while Javon Brown chipped in 11, for the Greyhounds (0-2).

Chartiers-Houston 75, Avella 34: Kodie Hanley scored 15 of his 17 points during Chartiers-Houston’s 37-point second quarter as the Bucs rolled to a 75-34 victory over Avella in the consolation game of the McGuffey tournament.

C-H led 11-5 after one quarter, then outscored the Eagles 37-8 to take a 35-point halftime lead.

Miles Williamson scored 14 points and Alec Ferrari had 11 for C-H.

Brandon Miller led Avella with 14 points.

McGuffey 62, Quaker Valley 53: Sammi Weiss scored a game-high 25 points to lead McGuffey to a 62-53 victory over Quaker Valley in the finals of the Fort Cherry Tournament.

Abby Pattison had 14 points and 15 rebounds and Rachel Czulewicz chipped in with 11 points for the Highlanders (2-0). Weiss was tournament MVP. Sierra Perlick led Quaker Valley (1-1) with 16 points.

South Fayette 54, Avella 32: South Fayette held Avella to one point in the third quarter and the Lions went on to win the Eagles’ tournament championship game, 54-32.

South Fayette led 20-17 at halftime, then outscored the Eagles 14-1 in the pivotal third quarter.

Caitlin McLuckie led South Fayette with 14 points. Olivia English paced Avella with 11 points and Kenna Drazich had 10.

Waynesburg 54, Jefferson-Morgan 38: Tournament MVP Lindsay Huhn had 18 points and 10 rebounds as Waynesburg handed host Jefferson-Morgan a 54-38 defeat in the championship game of the Rockets’ tip-off tournament.

Michelle Cesa added 15 points, while Danielle Jacobs had 14 rebounds for the Raiders (2-0).

Ashley Faddis led Jefferson-Morgan (1-1) with 14 points.

Beth-Center 44, Neighborhood Academy 26: Anna Bartman had 20 points as Beth-Center won the consolation game of the Jefferson-Morgan tournament with a 44-26 win over Neighborhood Academy.

Taylor Mackley added 14 points for the Bulldogs (1-1).

Daeja Quick had 12 points for Neighborhood Academy (0-2).

Chartiers-Houston 64, Brownsville 20: Addisen Knetzer had 20 points and grabbed 10 rebounds as Chartiers-Houston cruised to a 64-20 win in the championship game over host Brownsville in the Brownsville tournament.

Tori Foster added 12 points, while Ashley Balzner had 11 points and 10 rebounds for the Bucs (2-0).

Brownsville falls to 1-1.

California 59, Trinity Christian 29: Senior guard Cortnee McMasters scored a career-high 39 points and had an astounding 18 steals as California ripped Trinity Christian, 59-29, in a non-section game.

Natalie Baron chipped in 10 points for the Trojans (1-0).

Rose Laird scored 12 points, while Becca Matta had 10 for Trinity Christian (0-1).

Peters Township 49, Sto-Rox 27: Bridgette Loether had 13 points as Peters Township opened up a close game in the fourth quarter with a 20-7 run as the Indians defeated Sto-Rox, 49-27 in the consolation game of the Montour tournament.

Madison Kerr added 12 points for the Indians (1-1), who led 29-20 entering the fourth quarter.

Amy Miller had 10 points to lead Sto-Rox (0-2).

Obama 48, Monessen 45: Acquila Youngblood had 16 points as Obama came from behind to edge Monessen, 48-45, in the consolation game of the McKeesport tournament.

Monessen (0-2) held a 32-28 lead entering the fourth quarter, but was outscored by Obama (1-1), 20-13, in the final period.

Mariah Ward had 24 points, while Asyaa Davis had 10 for Monessen.

Bentworth 59, Mapletown 12: Taylor Pompei scored 23 points and Bentworth defeated Mapletown 59-12 in the consolation game of the Avella tournament.

Jenna Brewer had 10 points and was the only other player to score in double figures for the Bearcats.

Belle Vernon 71, Charleroi 27: Belle Vernon broke open a close game in the second quarter and went on to defeat Charleroi 71-27 in the finals of the Cougars’ tournament.

Belle Vernon led 17-12 after one quarter, then outscored Charleroi 25-7 over the next eight minutes.

Tournament MVP Jessica Slagus scored 20 points to lead Belle Vernon. Mia Woytovich paced Charleroi with 13 points.
