Waynesburg rallies for Saltsburg win

Waynesburg used some long-range shooting a big third quarter to erase a nine-point halftime deficit and rally for a 65-54 victory over Saltsburg in the seventh-place game Sunday at the EQT Energy Classic at Canon-McMillan.

Saltsburg led 31-22 at halftime, but Waynesburg (1-2) won the third quarter by a 21-5 margin to take the lead for good.

Waynesburg made seven three-point field goals in the game, including three in the pivotal third quarter. The Raiders also made 21 of 30 free throws.

Adam Fox led Waynesburg with 17 points, including five three-pointers. Dominick Sarra and John Glenn Davis had 13 points each.

Pikeville (Ky.) 69, Burgettstown 58: Pikeville defeated Burgettstown 69-58 in the third-place game at the EQT Energy Classic. No details were made available to the Observer-Reporter.

Trinity 66, Blairsville 40: Trinity defeated Blairsville 66-40 in the fifth-place at the EQT Energy Classic. No details were made available to the Observer-Reporter.

Girls results

Washington 32, Saltsburg 22:Alyssa Wise scored 10 points and Washington used some strong defense to defeat Saltsburg 32-22 in the consolation game of the EQT Energy Classic.

Washington (1-1) held Saltsburg to seven points or fewer in each quarter. The defense helped the Prexies overcome making only seven of 25 free throws.

Wash High plays its third game in as many days tonight when it is at Peters Township (1-1).
