Waynesburg men, women lose on road

Aaron Stefanov scored 20 points and led a second-half comeback Saturday as Hiram rallied to defeat visiting Waynesburg 74-62 in a non-conference game.
Waynesburg (2-7) led 41-33 at halftime and held the advantage for the first 10 minutes of the second half before going cold from the field. Hiram (2-4) used an 11-0 run that was capped by a jumper by Stefanov that gave the Terriers a 56-52 lead with 8:46 remaining.
Hiram protected the lead at the free-throw line, where the Terriers converted 22 of 25 shots for the game, including 18-for-20 in the second half. Hiram also shot 50 percent from the field in the second half.
Waynesburg was led by Jason Propst, who scored 18 points. Casey Hope scored 12 points, and Jacob Fleegle and Thomas Ellis each had 11. Fleegle pulled down a team-high eight rebounds.
Waynesburg shot only 20 percent (6-for-30) from the field in the second half.
Alan Sheppard had 19 points for Hiram. Steve Zivoder scored 12 points, and Chris Zurowski had 10 points and a game-high 13 rebounds.
Women’s results
Wooster 55, Waynesburg 51: Waynesburg’s streak of cold shooting continued during a 55-51 non-conference loss at the College of Wooster.
Waynesburg (3-6) shot only 24 percent from the field and was outscored 21-9 at the free-throw line. Wooster (4-3) made only 15 field goals.
Wooster used a 7-0 run midway through the second half to open a 44-32 advantage. Waynesburg then finally got its offense going, scoring 11 points in less than four minutes to pull to within 48-45. A three-pointer by Karley Walker, who scored 15 points, pushed Wooster’s lead back to six points and the Fighting Scots protected the advantage down the stretch at the free-throw line.
In addition to its free-throw shooting, Wooster also had a big advantage on the boards, outrebounding Waynesburg 63-44.
Jessica Wingen led Wooster with 16 points.
Brittany Spencer was the only Waynesburg player in double figures with 12 points.
