GRANVILLE, Ohio – Dimonde Hale made 19 of 21 free throws and scored a game-high 35 points as Denison held off a second-half charge by Washington & Jefferson and edged the Presidents 79-74 Thursday in the men’s college basketball opener for each team.

Zach Bellhy led the Presidents with 28 points. Mike Resnick came off the bench to score 15 points for W&J, and Nate Bellhy, a transfer from Seton Hill, scored 12 in his Presidents debut.

Denison’s Darius White scored 12 points and Brett Woolard had 11.

, including a key basket with 22 seconds left. The Big Red made 27 of 32 free throws.
