Brock Witkowski and Dylan Reigel each scored 12 points to lead Pitt-Greensburg to a 74-61 victory over cold-shooting Waynesburg Friday night in the first round of the Coaches vs. Cancer Classic at Geneva College.

Waynesburg shot only 31 percent from the field and trailed for much of the game.

Kenny Klase came off the bench to score a game-high 17 points and make four of Waynesburg’s five three-point field goals.

Jacob Fleegle scored 14 points and Jason Propst had 12 for the Yellow Jackets, who play Penn State-Fayette tonight.

Women’s results

John Carroll 71, Waynesburg 66: Erin Mog scored a game-high 23 points to lead John Carroll to a 71-66 season-opening victory over Waynesburg in the first round of the Allegheny tournament.

Waynesburg was unable to overcome a horrid start as the yellow Jackets fell behind 22-5 less than 10 minutes into the game. The Yellow Jackets, who have four starters back from a 20-win team last season, pulled to within 33-26 at halftime. After the break, Waynesburg closed to within four points twice, the last time at 40-36. But JCU pushed the lead back to 10 points and Waynesburg could get no closer than five for the rest of the game.

Allison Long scored 15 points and Melissa Spahar had 13 for John Carroll, which won only nine games last season.

Brittany Spencer paced Waynesburg with 19 points and nine rebounds. Hayden Giulani was the only other Yellow Jacket in double figures with 10 points.
